Recently I ventured into the metaverse, Second Life (sl). What an adventure that turned into. It all began as an investigation into possible marketing vehicles for the company I work for in my "real life" (rl).
The first step was finding a sl name for myself. Then creating my avatar. Then finding my way around Orientation Island learning how to navigate. Of course, all of this was AFTER downloading the software. I had to try it on three separate computers before I succeeded. The first, my company laptop, had me blocked from loading anything. So much for investigating company-related ideas. But that would not deter me, I'm used to working extra hours at home, so I would just load it on my personal computer. Or not. Seems I didn't have the right hardware. BUT, I think I'm smarter than that... so next out comes my laptop. Finally, success.
Since creating my new life I've spent a lot more hours on the computer than I had imagined I would. One session lasted just over 6 hours. Who has 6 hours to spend exploring. I guess I did. Having recently had a foot surgery I was relegated to my butt on the coach anyway so, what the heck. Better than reruns on TV.
So now I have a second life, some new friends, a whole new look and persona with which to play. I've bought some new clothes, new hair, gotten as many freebies as I could find. Let the adventure begin.
